Plant-Based Wines to Enjoy on National Wine Day

Did you know that some wine contains animal products? What!? Gross, right?? Why do we need animal products to enjoy fermented (delicious) grape juice?!

During the process of fining, some wineries use the following ingredients for clarification, to filter out sediment and reduce tannins:

  • Isinglass from fish bladders

  • Gelatin from boiled cow or pig body parts

  • Albumin (egg whites)

  • Casein from milk protein

Fortunately there are many other ways to make wine without the use of animal products, and these are our favorites!
