This Week's Best Plant-Based News

This week’s good news indicates that plant-based burgers are taking over the world. And we’re really excited about it 😍🍔🍟

Lightlife Foods Plant-Based Ground Beef Debuts in Meat Aisles

Plant-based food is now taking over meat departments in grocery stores - yup - meat departments. Lightlife’s packaged Plant-Based Burger and Plant-Based Ground beef will be available in over 3,400 United States and Canadian retailers including Safeway, Vons, Wegmans this week, and will be available at Whole Foods in July. The plant-based beef packs 20g of plant-based pea protein with 0g of cholesterol and only 2.5g of saturated fat, compared to 80g of cholesterol and 9.3g of saturated fat in a conventional beef patty. Let’s not forget that this alternative also saves lives, water, land, and co2 emissions - a win for everyone!

Beyond Meat Partners With Chanticleer Holdings

Restaurant company Chanticleer Holdings has partnered with Beyond Meat to offer the plant-based Beyond Burger patty at 50 of Chanticleer Holding’s burger restaurants: Little Big Burger, American Burger Company, Burgers Grilled Right, and Just Fresh. “With roughly one-third of consumers identifying as flexitarians, we’re thrilled to partner with Beyond Meat to provide a plant-based alternative to our current menu offerings,” Fred Glick Chanticleer Holdings President said. “We also understand that consumers are more conscious than ever about making responsible food choices that are not only healthy, but that also take sustainability and ethical considerations into account.”

Plant-Based Burger Patch Opens in Sacramento

California’s capital just gained another all plant-based establishment. Burger Patch opened it’s first brick-and-mortar location in Sacramento after a successful pop-up and food stand in the Golden 1 Center arena. The restaurant serves up all American classics including Beyond Meat burgers, fries, milkshakes, and [OMG] warm salted chocolate chip cookies. Lines are already wrapped around the block for the mouth-watering munchies. Founders Danea and Phillip Horn are already planning to open future location in the Northern California region. We can’t wait for the day when plant-based eateries outnumber the alternative!

Burger King Will Expand Impossible Whopper to 7,000 US Locations

Well that was fast. After just a month of testing the Impossible Whopper at St Louis locations, Burger King experienced a whopping 😉 success and will roll out the plant-based patties to locations nationwide before the end of the year. The Impossible Whopper includes the Burger King sesame seed bun, Impossible 2.0 patty, sliced tomatoes, lettuce, ketchup pickles, and onions and can be made 100% plant-based by ordering without mayo.

The Best IPO of 2019 is Beyond Meat

The best IPO of 2019 is coincidentally (or not) the first plant-based meat company to go public. Beyond Meat stock was projected to open at $21, rose to $46 per share at opening, and closed the day at $65.75, 163% above its IPO price on NASDAQ - making it the best performing first-day IPO in nearly two decades. The revolutionary company secured $241 million from the sale of 9.63 million shares and is currently valued at $3.8 billion. Beyond Meat celebrated the successful IPO by hosting Beyond Day on Friday, May 3rd, offering free Beyond Meat products all over the United States.

White Castle Tests Plant-Based Cheese

After experiencing an incredible reaction to their addition of the plant-based Impossible Slider, White Castle is testing out more ways to make plant-based people happy. Currently each of their US locations offer the Impossible Slider, but vegans and those committed to a plant-based diet must request the slider without cheese. Fortunately, the fast food chain is testing out plant-based cheese according to a response on their site’s FAQ page, “Our product development team is working to find the perfect vegan cheese to complement the Impossible Slider, please look for more information in the future.”

Free Solo’s Alex Honnold Launches Plant-Based Protein

If you haven’t watched Free Solo on Netflix you’re missing out on one of the most exhilarating, Oscar winning documentaries of our time. The plant-based rock climber became the first to ever summit Yellowstone National Park’s 3,000-foot El Capitan wall without any ropes, no safety net, no thing. Crazy, right? In light of his success, Alex just partnered with Momentous products to launch a 100% plant-based protein combining pea protein and rice protein, free of dairy, soy, and gluten, and packed with 20g of protein per scoop.

One thing is for sure - the future of plant-based food is here and now! We’re elated to see so much growth and innovation in the food market, making this a better planet for humans and animas!
