Simple Plant-Based Product Swaps to Help You Reduce, Reuse & Recycle this Earth Day
Happy Earth Day fellow Earthlings!
Do you ever take a moment to stop and smell the roses, breathe in the fresh air, dip a toe in the water, or stare in awe at the sunset? Our planet is a masterpiece of beauty and wonder, and it’s time we collectively put more effort into keeping this place just as beautiful as it was when we entered it. The following tips are some of the simplest steps you can take to protect our World and all of it’s inhabitants.
While it can be overwhelming to think of all of the changes we should be making as individuals to collectively improve the state of our planet, we just need to simply do what we can with what we have. Always remember: the reduce, reuse, recycle concept is not an all or nothing approach. That being said, I’ve compiled a list of my favorite sustainable products that make life better for you and Earth!
Reusable Bottles
Some of my great friends share the vision of a plastic-free planet, so they created one of the best reusable bottles I’ve been able to find at COBO Bottle. They’re insulated to keep your cold drinks cold and your hot drinks hot. With a metal strainer insert, you can also help the earth by eliminating the need for tea bags; the insert doubles as a nice barrier between you and ice so you’re not getting hit in the mouth by ice when all you want is a refreshing drink.
Purchase on COBO’s website or Amazon.
Soy Wax Wraps
If you’ve ever watched Plastic Oceans, you’ll understand our dire need to end our reliance on plastic. These reusable organic plant-based food wraps from Earth’s Basics are a great alternative to plastic wrap and baggies typically used to keep food fresh.
Purchase on Earth’s Basics website or Amazon.
Resealable Bags
There’s an infinite list of things we use resealable plastic bags for, and unfortunately there’s an infinite number of problems that result from these ocean polluting products. Fortunately there are reusable, dishwasher safe, microwave safe, fridge safe, durable bags we can replace plastic with!
Purchase on Stasher’s website or Amazon.
Reusable Straw
Straws suck. Literally and figuratively. Plastic straws pollute our oceans and cause an unbelievable amount of tragedies for sea creatures. We can put an end to this by switching to reusable straws and refusing plastic straws at restaurants, cafes, and bars.
Purchase on Final Straw’s website or Amazon.
Produce Bags
Plastic product bags cause so much unnecessary waste. It took me a while to find organic materials without any plastic enclosures, but we’ve found two great options!
Purchase Planet Maiden or Ecoture produce bags.
Reusable Utensils
Replacing single use plastic products is one of the most effective ways to help our planet. When we lead by example and take pride in using these products others quickly follow suit, and what a beautiful thing that is!
