We’re kicking off our City Leader feature series with the lovely Jaimie from San Diego, CA. Jaimie’s knowledge & love for vegan food makes her one of the best to go to for plant-based advice! She’s the proud mom of 3 rescue cats, a mini pig, and a Yellow Crown Amazon, Bailey. She loves to travel and grub on the latest & greatest plant-based foods.

How long have you been plant-based?
I have been plant-based for 5 years and have never looked back!
What made you commit to a plant-based lifestyle?
I came to the realization that I could no longer call myself an animal lover while continuing to eat animal products. I knew my health, the planet, and all living creatures could only benefit from more people going plant-based.
What are you most looking forward to in the plant-based market?
I am so impressed to see companies who have existed for so many years jump into the plant-based market. In just a few years, society has witnessed massive, nationally-recognized chains like Del Taco, Carl’s Jr., TGI Friday’s and Red Robin enter the plant-based space which only shows me that the times are changing and public demand is being heard! I look forward to more large companies committing to being plant-based and changing the world.

Which innovations in the plant-based industry interest you most?
I am BEYOND (pun intended) excited for the many new “meats” and “cheeses” that are continuing to come out. These products are game-changers and they allow more and more people to try the plant-based lifestyle. We are passed the days of plant-based cheese tasting like plastic and not melting the way we all wish it would. It is awesome to see new brands coming out as well as existing brands continuing to improve their formula.
Who is the most inspirational plant-based person in your life?
My sister-in-law and best friend Kristina Plummer is by far the most influential plant-based person in my life. She has continued to pioneer the movement and has turned so many people (including me) to consider a plant-based lifestyle with her constant love, compassion, dedication, and support. She’s one badass babe who I am so grateful to have in my life.

Which plant-based product can you not live without?
This question is so hard!! I love a good plant-based sauce or dressing. Give me Follow Your Heart’s Ranch with Starlite’s Taquitos and I am HAPPY person.

What is your best advice for someone who wants to commit to a plant-based lifestyle?
Go at your own pace, there is no right way of going plant-based. Some people find it very challenging going from a meat-based diet to a plant-based diet overnight- and that is COMPLETELY understandable. Baby steps are key. Challenge yourself to take out meat one meal a day. Commit to watching a documentary or two if you need an extra push. Find someone who has already gone plant-based to help guide you if you ever have any questions.
